A Message from the CUTA Bargaining Team (30 April 2014)
Today, April 30, 2014, the CUTA bargaining team met with district officials for the 5th time and came to a Tentative Agreement, pending your ratification. The Tentative Agreement includes a 3% pay increase retroactive to July 1, 2013, as well as changes to Article 17, the Voluntary Transfer Language.
Negotiating a salary increase was the bargaining team's primary focus after it was identified as the number one priority in our member survey. CUTA initially asked for a 4% salary schedule increase; CUSD responded with a 1.565% salary schedule increase. After numerous counter-proposals, we agreed upon 3% retroactive to July 1, 2013.
An additional focus during negotiations was Article 17, the Voluntary Transfer Language. It was our intention to make the transfer language more transparent and formalize an equitable process that is favorable to bargaining unit members.
If ratified, district-wide postings of known vacancies shall 1.) be posted in two rounds and limited strictly to members of the bargaining unit; 2.) allow for voluntary transfer between sites; and 3) provide all candidates with the opportunity to be interviewed, with a possible scheduled observation
More information will be disseminated at the May 5th Rep Council Meeting. You will be receiving copies of the proposed contract language changes with the ratification ballots. If you have specific questions, please contact your site rep or members of the bargaining team. Here>
Your CUTA negotiating team will soon develop a survey for members to complete in order to establish negotiation priorities for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. We hope all members will complete that survey when it becomes available. Your continued support and active participation will play the most significant role in our bargaining success as we move forward.
