New PE Courses Emphasize Lifelong Fitness

 

The Washington Post (6/28, Chandler) reports on a new trend in physical education activities that get rid of sports that “use kids as targets, contests that reward student who are the strongest, and exercise doled out (or withheld) as a form of punishment.” The new PE classes focus on “personal fitness plans, target heart-rate zones, and sports that play to different strengths and introduce students to” lifetime sport activities. Archery, rock-climbing an, fly fishing, and yoga are now activities that are being introduced in PE classes.
